Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in Canary Wharf
by Chartered Psychologist
What About Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?
CBT is often mentioned as the treatment of choice for many psychological issues and symptoms, but little is explained as to what it is about with the result the one does not always know what to expect.
CBT is an umbrella term incorporating a number of psychotherapeutic frameworks that share the same basic philosophy but that may differ significantly in the way they translate into action-therapy.
It is not a one-size-fit-all standard treatment that can be applied to anyone irrespective of their issues, history or personal traits.
Practising any psychotherapeutic framework requires years of academic study, research and practice as well as an extensive knowledge of various fields in the disciplines of human behaviour, development, personality theories, psychopathology, social and systemic psychology, psychotherapeutic theories and reserach, just to name a few.
It is therefore important that you have a discussion beforehand about a psychotherapeutic plan with your therapist agreeing on a course of action vis-a-vis your objectives, goals and expectations.
